Breast Imaging Fellowship

We enjoy educating the next generation of radiologists to have ample opportunity for complete immersion into the practice of breast imaging and intervention.

Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art subspecialty training for our fellows in an environment which fosters team work and collaboration. We enjoy educating the next generation of radiologists, and our trainees to have ample opportunity for complete immersion into the practice of breast imaging and intervention. Each trainee is unique, both in residency experience and in needs for future employment.  We work with our fellows to make sure that their educational goals are met, whether they plan on joining an established large academic group or entering a small private practice as the only fellowship trained breast imager.

This one-year fellowship will provide comprehensive training in all aspects of breast imaging, including screening and diagnostic mammography with digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, MRI (1.5T and 3T), and interventional breast procedures including stereotactic (prone and upright), ultrasound-guided, and MRI-guided breast biopsy, as well as ultrasound-guided breast cryoablation.

Educational time will be divided between Rhode Island Hospital and Women and Infants Hospital, the major teaching affiliates of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. High volume imaging in state-of-the-art departments will ensure in-depth experience in all aspects of breast imaging. The Anne C. Pappas Breast Center of Rhode Island Hospital performs and interprets over 30,000 breast imaging examinations annually. Women and Infants Hospital, a dedicated women’s hospital on the same academic campus, performs over 19,000 breast imaging examinations annually.

Fellows will have the opportunity to actively participate in multi-disciplinary breast tumor boards, journal clubs and radiology-pathology conferences. Many opportunities also exist for research participation. Four weeks of elective time are provided, which can be used for experience in other areas of radiology, other clinical specialties (such as surgery or oncology), or research.  All fellows are granted an academic appointment at Brown University, which provides access to the university’s diverse resources.

The fellow will be assigned to daytime general radiology call approximately 1 in every 8 weekends. The call is paid as a moonlighting shift. Therefore, the fellow can expect to make an additional $20,000-30,000 for the year, with additional moonlighting shifts also available if interested.

We encourage you to spend some time on our website to get to know our department, people and our city. We hope to see you for an interview!
