Rhode Island Hospital
Founded in 1863, Rhode Island Hospital is a 719-bed tertiary care center and the hub of our department. Located in Providence, RI, it is the only Level I trauma center serving a population of approximately 1.5 million people from Rhode Island, Eastern Connecticut, and Southeastern Massachusetts. With nearly 150,000 patient visits to the emergency department last year, Rhode Island Hospital boasts one of the most active emergency departments in the country.
As the principal teaching hospital of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital is a nationally-recognized academic medical center. Annually, some 385,000 diagnostic radiology examinations are performed along with over 5,000 vascular and non-vascular interventional radiologic procedures. In 2015, Rhode Island Hospital was designated a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and eligible patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team of experts, including neurointerventional radiologists from our department.
Rhode Island Hospital is located on an 87-acre academic campus, which also includes Hasbro Children’s Hospital and Women and Infants Hospital.
Hasbro Children's Hospital
Hasbro Children’s Hospital (HCH). HCH is a freestanding pediatric hospital located on the campus of Rhode Island Hospital. HCH has a dedicated pediatric emergency room and provides care for approximately 7,000 inpatients and 60,000 outpatients annually. The pediatric imaging center is a tertiary referral site for pediatric imaging and includes radiography, sonography, CT, MRI and fluoroscopy. Dedicated pediatric sedation services are on-site.
The Miriam Hospital
The Miriam Hospital is a 250-bed medical-surgical hospital and a major teaching affiliate of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Located approximately 4 miles from Rhode Island Hospital and providing a different patient population and complementary pathology, Miriam Hospital is an important component of our department. With robust hospital programs in joint replacement, bariatric surgery and urologic surgery, the radiology department focuses on abdominal and musculoskeletal imaging and intervention. The Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s Hospital are part of Lifespan, Rhode Island’s largest health care system, and images are interpreted by subspecialty sections across the enterprise.
Women and Infants Hospital
Women and Infants Hospital is a major teaching affiliate of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University located on the campus of Rhode Island Hospital. It is the 9th-largest freestanding obstetrical service in the country with approximately 8,500 deliveries per year. The hospital has one of the largest and most prestigious research facilities in obstetrics, gynecology and newborn pediatrics in the nation. The hospital is the clinical site for the Brown residency program in OB/Gyn and fellowships in gynecologic oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, urogynecology, reconstructive pelvic surgery, and more.
Diagnostic Imaging at Women and Infants Hospital focuses on breast and obstetric and gynecologic imaging. We provide CT, MRI, US, radiography and fluoroscopy services with nearly 25,000 OB/Gyn US exams performed per year. The department includes a full-service ACR accredited Breast Imaging Center of Excellence performing over 20,000 breast imaging examinations and interventions.
