Akya Myrie, MD
Biography
Brooklyn born, but raised in rich Jamaican culture, both worlds deeply shape who I am. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Stony Brook University, graduating magna cum laude. I then went on to earn my MD from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where I was honored to be inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) and awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. I am also a four-time recipient of the Diversity in Medicine Scholarship from the Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMSNY). I completed my intern year at the Cleveland Clinic and bring a passion for service as a Medical Compliance Officer and Disaster Action Team Lead with the American Red Cross. Giving back is at the heart of who I am—whether it’s in a clinic, at a disaster site, or mentoring others along the way. Outside of medicine, I’m always on the hunt for new restaurants, I love being on the water (scuba diving, snorkeling, yachting, swimming etc), and I have a soft spot for interior design (nothing beats creating a space that feels like home). I’m so excited to be part of this journey and look forward to all that’s ahead!
